File output

Postby Ripcord » Wed May 13, 2015 1:12 am

Hi, I've been using Inkscape off and on to familiarize myself with it (I've used Corel Draw for years.) So far I like all the features, but the one specific feature Corel has that I don't see in Inkscape is the ability to print to a postscript file. This is important for printers because it's how we create halftones. Corel lets you specify the halftone dot shape, frequency and angle and save it all as a ps file which the RIP can open and print out.

I was curious if there are any plans for Inkscape to include this feature in the future...

Hello,
First of all, Inkscape it's nor Corel Draw (or Adobe Illustrator, or etc).

Inkscape uses as its main file type SVG, which is a format created specially for web or computer graphs. So There are many limitations when the design is going to be printed (CMYK, spot colours, etc).

Sorry for the rant. Short answer: I will say NO, there is not such feature on Inkscape, I don't know if there is a plan for that in the developer's crew, but my guess is NO too.

On the other hand ... May be still hope. Could you show an example of what you want to achieve?. Inkscape can export to PDF or EPS format, with some limitations. If what you want is related with change the "fill" of the shapes In dot patterns, in different layers related with colour, I believe it can be simulated, with some effort. And later, It can be automatized using extensions.
But all is just a guessing... Could you share some image examples?
