Odd, I use Inkscape on Vista quite a bit. At the moment I'm using the 0.46 stable, which version are you using?

Does it crash (i.e. does it come up with some kind of error)?
If so, what does the error say (exactly, word for word, or post a screenshot of the error (alt+PrtScrn))?
How long can you use it before it does this?
Is it anything specific you do or is it random?
Computer Specs?

All of these will help the developers figure out what's happening, as simply saying "It doesn't work" doesn't help at all.

0.46 has always worked normally on Vista for me.

Try installing 0.47 pre-release to see if that version does the same:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscap ... e/0.47pre1

If the crash happens to that version of Inkscape we can look at other options.

after about ten minutes of use while in use it closes its self down saying something like an unexpectederror has accurred then it exits from inkscape and any work that has been done is lost

Bolded questions still unanswered. Knowing exactly what's going on helps the devs narrow down which code is causing the error, keeping them from needing to scan through what I would guess is 10,000+ lines of code to find this one small bug. Otherwise it's like trying to find a grain of sugar in a sandbox (needle in a haystack is overused).
