hello all, my text to path is not working.

Things I have tried. I closed and restarted inkscape. I used object to path. I tried different fonts and object types. (circle and lines)

What do you think is wrong?

Object to path (Ctrl+Shift+C) converts the text object to a group of the characters substituted by paths.
Probably you are after one compound path instead of a group, so
ungroup text after converting to path (Ctrl+Shift+C, then Ctrl+Shift+G) and
combine the characters together (Ctrl+K).

A boolean operation on the text tool may not be exact, but the result can look satisfactory most of the times -and it's faster two steps.
Just select text and press Ctrl and + for that.

"not working" is too vague of a description to allow us to have any idea about the problem. Please tell use exactly the steps you are taking, and then please describe clearly the results. In addition to that, we need to know how you come to the conclusion it's not working. What are the signs you see, what is the evidence?

Maybe what the user wants is to do 'Put on Path'? (align the text along a path)

Yes, Moini, was right, I am trying align text along a path. (Text/Put on Path). I tried to put line of text on a curved line. Nothing (no movement or error message etc) occurred when I did the following.
I typed the text. I then drew a bezier curve. From what I had read, I used 'object to path' on each one. I then selected the text and then shift-clicked the curved line. I then went to the text menu and clicked 'Put on Path'. Nothing happen. I then tried again using a circle and a new line of text. Still no effect. I also shut down the Inkscape and tried again, but still did not work.

Text has to be text. If you convert to path, it won't work.

I realize this is an old post but i have read all a could find including the manual on this procedure and did not find a solution.

I am trying to put text on a path, for now the "path" is just a simple curve almost a half circle. I have done this before about a month ago and it worked fine the next time I tried it the texts placement was upside down (under the curve) to the right on the curve and backwards. I some how solved it then but this time I cannot figure out whats going on.

The manual is pretty straight forward on the subject and that is how I got good results prior.
HERE IS WHAT IVE TRIED:
1.reverse path. This moves the text from the bottom to the top but the word is still backwards NAILATI (ITALIAN)
2. drawing the path from either direction (left to right and reverse) with no change in results.

Im drawing a straight line using the then manipulating it into the curve. Then typing in my word ITALIAN selecting the text and the curve then choosing text to path.

Im using .91 version on windows xp pro. I have included two examples I hope it helps thanks for any help.

I was creating this curved text while working on a sign design and was just doing it off to the side on the same page. Since I deleted my attempts at the curved text after asking the question here I needed to create a new file to reproduce the issue and send here. Well now it worked just fine on a new blank page was that the issue? shouldn't I be able to do it the way I was having issues with? I can upload the file I was working in if you still need it

If the problem reoccurs, and the file is too big again, you can use an online file hosting service, such as https://framadrop.org (a service maintained by a French open source community) or dropbox or google drive (as long as you can provide public links).

Re-reading my question I realize I was not very clear. So for future reference, and I realize without more information you can only speculate but do yo think it was because of the file size of the image Im working on it was doing that? I mean on a clean page it does put the text right where is should go.

I have experienced this issue when I started with a converted PDF instead of a blank document. I recommend you always start with a clean document when doing text on path and I would guess that is what corrected your problem.

@unofornaio: No, I don't think it was just the file size. Maybe with transformations not being applied correctly, the document size having been changed at some point, or maybe something very different - don't know
