change the interface's default colour for transparent image

Postby lorenzosu » Thu Feb 04, 2010 2:19 am

Hi all,

Is there a way to change the canvas colour displayed for transparent background images, that is white?

What I mean is not changing the background colour of an image, but change the way (the colour) Inkscape shows the canvas when it is actually transparent, this would be useful when editing white or mainly light objects in a transparent image, something like Gimp's 'greyish squares' for instance.

Thanks
Lorenzo

Hmmm... I don't believe I've ever seen something like this in the Preferences screen,... since GIMP does it that way, I imagine this would make for a nice "wishlist" item. :)

But whenever I'm editing light objects, I do just temporarily enable a funky background color to help make it stand out and easier to draw (CTRL+SHIFT+D is your friend...) Then when I'm done, I just make it all transparent again. A bit inconvenient, true, but it works. :D

File=>Document Properties, first tab (Page), near the top is a label saying "Backgound" with a colour box next to it. Click on the colour box and you can pick whatever background colour (and opacity) you like. It won't give you a checkerboard effect like The GIMP, but does at least let you pick a dark colour if you need to edit light objects.
