hello, here is a new drawing i completed from a pencil work of mine.
Done on Inkscape 0.45 on Mac Os.
what do you guys think :
Imperius Rex
Re: Imperius Rex
That's really nice comic book style. Good work.
Re: Imperius Rex
sweet! you guys who can draw this stuff are truly amazing. i love comic illustration anyway but i love it when it's done in inkscape. excellent work. i have a major weed up my arse to give this a try. i would actually like to try coloring first. i'll likely crash and burn a few times. if anyone would like to share a black and white sketch that i could practice on i would be grateful.
Re: Imperius Rex
You'll find plenty of artists on deviantart who will let you colour their work. A couple I've used:
I'm always faving pencils with the intention of colouring them one day. Of course, I always ask first.

Re: Imperius Rex
thanks for the links but how does this work? do i just save an image to my hard drive? do i ask permission to save it first? i definitely do not want to rip off someone else's work nor do i want someone to think i will. this is something i'll keep private. i do not intend to upload somewhere or show anyone.
i'm also looking for an excuse to use my wacom.

Re: Imperius Rex
I'm not a lawer, but legally I don't believe there is anything to stop you from saving an image to your PC and colouring it without asking. It's only when you come to put that work back into public domain is there an issue. I think it's polite to ask anyway, but in most cases the only way to communicate with those artists is via deviantart, which means you would need to signup on the site. So if you intend to keep the work private, I wouldn't worry about asking. If it comes a time you would like to put it on the web, or anywhere else, you could ask them then.
Also, another one I forgot about is Colormeclub. Many artists give their work to this community for people to color. I don't believe you need to ask permission, but I believe you must credit the artist.

Re: Imperius Rex
Ah, thanks microUgly.
I sketched something last night and started to color it. I'm finding that it's going to take a lot of time with .045. I might reserve this for .046 and the bucket fill. I was screwing around with Gimp too but I felt like that was cheating. I actually followed some tips by Bert Monroy in a Pixel Perfect episode on Rev3 regarding coloring. I think air brushing and dodge and burn are quite handy. Anyway, I'll have to study some of your work so that I can see how it's done.

Re: Imperius Rex
There's not such thing as cheating. If you find a process that makes it easy, I say use it.
Before the bucket fill tool I had ideas to fill the areas with colour using a raster application then import it and trace. This is basically what the bucket fill tool does anyway.
Note that I would argue that 0.46 is stable enough to use now. You can keep both 0.45 and 0.46 on your PC and switch between the two.
Which episode did you find those tips? I've read a number of tutorials by artists on DA and many of them advise not to use dodge and burn and instead just use the colour you want. I think it was simply because it's safer.

Re: Imperius Rex
Actually, I have .45 and .46 on my Windows machine. In .46 there are some things that I cannot do quite yet because it isn't fully baked but it' seems stable enough to use.
The episode that I was referring to on Rev3's Pixel Perfect was epsiode 16. The first part is about black and white coloring and the last part is about blank and white sketch coloring. He colors a comic character in Photoshop.
