DXF to SVG - can't manipulate object, can't copy

Postby [email protected] » Sat Aug 27, 2016 6:24 am

Hi - hoping one of the expert users here can help me out.

I've opened a DXF file in Inkscape and saved as an SVG. Most of the objects convert fine, but one doesn't. Here's an image:

Everything is OK except the gear teeth circle (GTC). If I select all, copy and paste to a new window, everything shows up except the GTC.

The GTC seems to be a type of object I'm unfamiliar with. There are no nodes. I've tried Path > Object to Path, and Path > Stroke to Path, but neither gives me the nodes. I've tried Group, UnGroup, and combinations thereof.

If I save this file -- either as Inkscape SVG or plain SVG, and open it in another tool (MakerCAM), everything shows up except the GTC.

I need to process the GTC in some fashion so that I get the entire figure when I move to the next stage. But I'm stumped. Any thoughts?

I've attached the SVG file in a zip format in case anyone wants to take a look directly.

Thanks!

Hi.

The object in question is a symbol -a feature which has been implemented only since 0.91-.
Haven't experienced myself with symbols yet, all I know is that they are kind of clones with their parents hidden somewhere.
And that seems working: unlink clone (Shift+Alt+D) and then you can edit the grouped object further.

That's it! :D :D :D

Thanks so much Lazur! I haven't come across symbols before and was at a complete loss.

Thanks!
