Wacom tablets?

Postby artguy10 » Sun Dec 28, 2008 1:27 pm

I was looking at this tablet on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000V9T2JA/ and wondering if I could use this to draw sketches in Inkscape. Because I use Inkscape in Mac OS X and it goes through X11. Could I use this tablet in such a way? :tool_calligraphic:

Thanks

From what I see in their last build (20398), the implementation of graphical tablets is in progress. But at least on mine (Intuos 3 on WinXP) I wasn't able to configure it to use pen pressure in Inkscape. Maybe someone else knows better.

It should be working on windows, if its not its a bug and we need to look into it.
I'm not sure of the status on mac, as we use GTK to get tablet support, and I know that at least fairly recently tablet support in the OS X gtk was patchy at best.

Thank you guys.

Continued advice or a tablet recommendation is welcome. And if tablet support exists in Windows but not Mac, I'll just use Parallels.

I'd like to chime in on the "wacom pen tablet on mac" theme...
Gimp just added pen tablet support on X11/Macs. Necessary is an updated Version of X11 (2.3.2 or later, provided by the XQuartz Project).

I'd be immensely happy if this feature would make it into Inkscape - I can only hope that the effort the XQuartz & GIMP developers put into this will be a help for our Inkscape Coders.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Add me to the list of Wacom Intuos users who would love to see entended device input acknowledged in Inkscape. Patiently waiting..... :)

In Mac OS X that is! ;)

Intuos 3, on WinXP, no problem, nice (that is normal) pressure sensitivity (with USB, that is, i had a serial-port Intuos 3 first, and that did not work out all that well via USB to Serial (other programs had problems too, but Inkscape was in a fit over it))

I have the Bamboo Fun. Today i downloaded the latest driver for it. At the moment (fingers X) all the drawing tools are working with the pen tool HOWEVER when tracing an outline with the bezier or pencil the drawn outline is offset from the item i am drawing round. this doesn't happen when using a mouse.

A quick note for Mac os X / Inkscape + Bamboo users: turning off the Ink in Mac System Prefs might be helpful ;-)
