Hello, I made a new Inkscape 0.91 text object.

I added a text object, typed in some characters, edited the font style and size, saved and opened in Image Viewer.
Rather than seeing text, I see a large black rectangle, the size of the text object, which I haven't shrunk to the size of the text yet.

What is wrong, as I should be able to see text?

Right, that's it! Not sure what you mean by 'add a text field'. You just click, then type to create normal text.
If you 'add a field' then you'd be dragging a box?

Can you upload the file and a screenshot from your Image viewer?

I was adding a text field by dragging out a large rectangle text area. I just clicked on the canvas and started typing text which worked.
