I have a clipping object with number of lines (path object) in it. I'd like to break it into simple line objects that are clipped.

You might need to explain that again--it sounds like what you want is what you already have

It sounds like you are clipping a group of objects. If you want those objects to not be grouped, ungroup them then apply to clip--this will have the effect of creating a new clip per object.
