[solved] Celtic Garamond 2 Font

Postby vernon » Thu Apr 24, 2008 6:02 am

I am attempting to use the above font in Inkscape. I have downloaded and installed the font (it is true type) to the MS fonts directory. It works fine in other apps such as MS Word. In Inkscape, it is listed as an available font and displays correctly in the preview window in the "Text & Font" dialog box, but I cannot get any selected text to change to the Celtic font. I am using version 0.45.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Vernon

The selected text is resized and defaults to the Bitstream Vera Sans font.

I dont know what might be the problem, maybe its a bug.

Can you download and install the new 0.46 version? The font support is greatly improved there.

I upgraded to version 0.46, but it didn't fix the problem. I downloaded the font from:

http://www.abstractfonts.com/font/2910

Would it be too much of an imposition to ask you to give it a try?

Thanks,
Vernon

I get the same weird behavior as you do, I get a nice preview but when I hit Apply it changes appearance and Sans is displayed in the font box on the toolbar.

It should be reported as a bug, also include the link to the font there so the experts can check what the problem is.

Thank you so much for your assistance -- glad it wasn't just me!

I reported a bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/168379/comments/4 as per your suggestion.

Thanks again for your help,
Vernon

The only thing that I notice about this font is that it has a restricted license embedding. No embedding allowed.

Before inky would recognize type 1 and opentype fonts I would do the following.
1. Put the font in my personal preferences for the Gimp
2. Create a document with just the text that I wanted.
3. Text to path and export in the Gimp
4. Open the text path in inky and manipulate. (It will not be text, but a path so you have to be just a little more creative)

This should help you get the job done if you have the Gimp.
