Tavmjong Bah now has a draft chapter for Inkscape filters on the Inkscape Guide. I highly recommend reading it to get an idea of what Inkscape 0.46 can do with filters.
I think the Stereoscopic picture example is particularly kewl, and I can't wait to see what others develop using the same technique.

I just cannot see anything in this picture ! What am I supposed to discover here ?

Which picture? The stereoscopic one?
When you cross or diverge your eyes so the two patterned images overlap they produce a 3D image.
Unfortunately, people always make the mistake of putting the image for the left eye on the left and the image for the right eye on the right. This means you have to diverge your eyes (the opposite of crossing them) which is near impossible for that distance (unless you have eyes on the side of head like a frog or you have a special viewing device called a stereoscope). Stereoscopic image should always be arranged so you go cross-eyed because it's far easier. The only time you should use divergence with with autostereograms where you're only required to diverge your eyes a smaller amount.
If your trying to view a stereoscopic image that uses divergence in your web browser, zoom out so it's much smaller and you don't need to strain your eyes so much. If you cross your eyes instead of diverge them (or visa versa) the 3d effect will be inverted.
You can read more about these image on wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereoscopy
