Subscripts

Postby Geber » Wed Aug 29, 2007 8:32 am

I'm using V 0.45 on Windows XP. How can I create subscripts? I can use Unicode subscript digits, but I don't know how to do letters.

There is no 'subscript' or 'superscript' format button, but you can create the effect maually by shifting the character/s up or down using Alt + Up or Alt + Down.

Hmm. It would be nice if the alt-arrow combination actually accomplished that.

I'm using 0.45.1 on XP. The text box in question happens to be using Bitstream Vera Sans as its font, but the few other fonts I've tried have been equally unresponsive. I select the text (an (R) symbol), and hit Alt-Up Arrow, even Alt+Shift+Up, and nothing happens. Inkscape appears to think something is happening, though -- if I go to the Edit dropdown, the Undo menu says "Undo: Kern up". Visually, though, there is no change.

Help!

I really am not familiar with the xml structure, but if someone could just tell me how to alter the xml to achieve a superscript, that would be great.
It's the ® (at the bottom) that I need superscripted.

<flowRoot
id="flowRoot43991"
xml:space="preserve"
transform="translate(-57.333334,2.6666667)"><flowRegion
id="flowRegion43993"><rect
height="84.166664"
id="rect43995"
y="25.666666"
x="878.66669"
width="139.66667" /></flowRegion><flowPara
style="font-size:23px;text-align:end;text-anchor:end"
id="flowPara43997">Using Your SonSet® Radio</flowPara></flowRoot>

This will be the case if the text is flowed into a shape. Kerning only works for unflowed text, afaik. Either unflow it in the menu, or create it in the first case by single clicking rather than dragging a box with the text tool.

Wow, that's a pain.
Thanks for the help, though. I thought I was going nuts!
