Advantages of Inkscape

I have just downloaded inkscape from the Kubuntu repository.

Before I begin, I was just wondering what the advantages of Inscape are over say GIMP.

Can they ever be used together - should they be?

Inkscape can fulfill the most extreme fantasies any regular gimp user could dream of in their dungeon.
