How do I add a picture to a pdf form

Postby Thedonald » Tue Nov 08, 2016 6:04 pm

Hi, I've just started using Inkscape, so I'm a very dumb newby at this point in time.

The way I discovered Inkscape, was by searching for a program that can be used to fill in a form in PDF format, without forking out $250 for Abode PDF Editor. I don't have to fill in forms like this very often, seldom in fact, so why invest $250 or more?

Inkscape opened a form in pdf format without hesitation. I filled the spaces meant for textual information in just fine. And the filled-in form saved to pdf like a dream.

However, where my signature was required, I did not know how to paste a picture of my signature into the designated space.

How do I do that?

The solution might be very simple: don`t paste it - import it!
Drag & drop should do the trick. When asked, chose "embed" then fit the scale and position and save it.
:tool_zoom: <<< click! - but, those with a cheaper tickets should go this way >>> :!:

Don't most pdf readers allow you to fill in a form and save it? (Mine do, but I'm on Linux, so who knows...)

Thanks, the "import" move worked well. Regarding the extent to which pdf's can be edited, much depends on the permissions set. For instance, you can copy text from some pdf's, and paste the text to a Word document, preferably unformatted. From other pdf's you can't do this, because the permissions were set up differently when the pdf was created. I seems to me as if Inkscape treats a pdf as a graphics file on which any other graphics can be superimposed, also text. But keep in mind I don't really know what I am talking about, being a complete novice here.

You're absolutely right, Thedonald. Inkscape doesn't care about any form fields at all - unless they're depicted with a box ;-)
