How to do this ( corel method ) in inkscape.

I agree about using Difference.

But for PT's #1, you don't necessarily have to draw them in a certain order. You can draw in any order you want, but you have to make sure that the yellow one is on top of the red one, and the blue on top of yellow (in z-order) before you do the Difference operations. You can use the Raise and Lower buttons on control bar, or commands from Object menu, to arrange them properly.

Is there any benefit if you group the top two, then use that to do the path/difference?
