I've just began using Inkscape after using Illustrator for four years. Still getting used to changes and crashes, but here's one of my pieces. It was for the 'clique' topic on illustration friday

Very cool. And nice interpretation of the theme.
What has made you give Inkscape a try after using Illustrator for so long. Most people prefer to stick with what they know
Inkscape really shouldn't crash that often. If you're able to reproduce it you should report it. I think there's a process for generating a crash log that the developers would like, but I don't remember how off the top of my head.

Wow. It's very odd but I love it. Nice work.

I've always encouraged the use of open source software so I thought I'd practice what I preach! I'm slightly considering going back to Illustrator as I don't think Inkscape is mature enough and, well, there's just a few things which I relied on in Illustrator, like applying brushes...
Still, Inkscape has a lot of potential and I'm still gonna see how best to use it!

When you say applying brushes do you mean something like this http://www.inkscape.org/screenshots/gal ... ngpath.png
just hand over the chocolate and nobody gets hurt

Re: First Inkscape work
Ah yes, I've used that method and it's quite a powerful tool. I think it'd be great in addition to have the option to just click on a brush and have it automatically applied to the path.
Anyway, I should probably be writing this in the feature requests forum

Live path effects will be greatly improved in the next version, you can already download and test it yourself. You can edit the pattern and the skeleton live.
It is added also to Pen and Pencil tool, you can choose a shape and when you draw a path it's automatically applied to it.
lots of new goodies

Re: First Inkscape work
Yeah, if it's brushes you are missing then you should definitely use the dev builds.
Having said that, I think the next thing you might miss as an Illustrator user is the Swatches for styles and brushes.

Already there
I've been using the dev build from 16th September for awhile now. Really like it, though still having issues with the speed.
