Inkscape for print design (business cards)

Postby DannyKing » Sun Feb 10, 2008 2:34 am

Hi,

Has anyone had much experience in using Inkscape for use with print design? I'm trying to get some business cards printed from a local print shop. I've designed the card myself and every printer expects a pdf file. My problem is that in my experience, pdf export from Inkscape doesn't look great - effects like blur and transparency don't work which is pretty essential.

So what are my options? Am I using the wrong tool for the job? Any hints would be great!

If your gona use blur effects on your card export the image as a png file then import it in again and choose save a copy as pdf that way it will save with all the effects :)

I was going to suggest something similar which involved using the PDF to store a bitmap version :) Even software like Illustrator will rasterise effects that the PDF format doesn't support. My method would be to install PDFCreator and use that to create the PDF - the result will be raster, not vector so you might want to check it has a suitable resolution.
