Im grouping then together once im finished. My file/ save bitmap actually says save PNG. I dont see anywhere it says save bitmap. Ive tried the background color. And the "only selected"... The background is coming up black and it is clouding my brain with All the different suggestions..my friend needs a basic logo for the internet and maybe even printing cards.

Re: Saving png but no transparent
Hi.
Make sure no objects with opaque colours are under your design and @ the document-properties (shift+cmd+D) background color is set to 100% transparency: 0
Cheers

I made transparency test with inkscape 0.92.4. It seems OK. What version use you?
I remember the same problem in old versions. Maybe is this corrected in the last versino 0.92.4.
Have a nice transpareny day.

Did you see the indigo Pony, when he came from other side wall of the night?

Are you using Menu: File>Export PNG?
Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Re: Saving png but no transparent
How do you determine if the background is transparent?
Many people upload their picture to facebook etc. - but facebook and others convert images to jpg, and jpg does not support transparency.
Some also have this problem using some programs to view the files that have a black background.
