Maestral and other winds...
I didn't manage to finish VW themed calendar on time, so I`ll post pages here monthly, along with some other stuff.

Re: Maestral and other winds...
Hi Maestral,
I was going to ask if this was going to be either cars or VW theme, so now I know I like the old style of bugs much better than the new. Just one comment/question. For some reason, I expect to see the left rear tire/wheel peeking out just a tiny bit. I'm not intimately familiar with any kind of car, so perhaps it just doesn't show at this angle?
I really love that idea of making calendar pages with Inkscape. Hhmmm.....I'm starting think it would make a fun drawing exercise.

Hey brynn,
It is VW themed, but only AirCooled ones will be represented ,)) Bugs and buses are well known but there are some more beauties among VW AirCooled types...
That rear wheel, if shown in it`s real place, could only peek under the rear fender and would be recognizable only with it`s shadow on the ground (which i avoided in this one).

Re: Maestral and other winds...
Nice, Maestral!
Do you mind a couple of comments? The days of the week in red, which I assume are the weekends, seem to be blurred. I'm just thinking that having them a different color is probably enough to make them stand out. I guess at the full wallpaper size, they're probably easier to read. So it's not a major issue. Just at this size, it's hard to read the numbers. Or maybe just less blur instead of none?
Also, I'm thinking the days of the week are probably going to be different in 2102, lol! Just kidding, I know it's a typographical error
This is going to be an awesome collection, and we're only 2 months finished yet. I'll be looking forward to each new month

Re: Maestral and other winds...
Hey..
Nice work so far. Looks clean and professional to me and the subjects are great! imho these babies look so much cooler design-wise, than most new cars. Another thing I like is that you used different looks/styles for each of the images so far. Matt, shiny, posterized.. you gonna keep this up for the coming months?

Thanks Dillerkind, glad you like it.
Yes, I`ll try to depict "personalities" of all those different types of air-cooled VW`s due to the opinion, which we apparently share, about their design.

Re: Maestral and other winds...
Recently I`ve noticed that Fill/Stroke box on status bar shows mixed color of two or more shapes when selected together.
Apparently and unfortunately, it makes only the arithmetic mean of RGB values where alpha and transparency are not included. It does shows if transparency is present, but it can not be copied from there and applied on some other shape or whatever as nontransparent colors could. Might not be of great help with colors but with shades and grays it works just fine.

Re: Maestral and other winds...
I like the June piece... The clean & simple and somewhat functional style, which I think fits the car really well. The color is cool, too. For some reason I'd have expected something more military, olive or khaki or some such. But the bright yellow is much better.
The July piece.. well, funny idea with the nose, although I have to admit I don't really get how the month July and things like fun/clowns(?)/etc. are related. Also, the eyes remind me of a film I've never watched and probably will never watch because I don't like its look and style: Disney's Cars. I think the other images look a lot more stylish than this one. Nonetheless I'm curious what the next month will bring :)

Re: Maestral and other winds...
Hey, glad to hear you like these.
The thing is... while drawing the June piece I had some open and hot place on mind and thought about some kind of trusty service vehicle, so desert and yellow looked fine ,) Now that you mentioned, I`m pretty much sure that inverted colors would work too. On the other hand, there are some mixed opinions about VW and WWII, so since I think this forum is not quite an appropriate place for a discussion on that subject - I`ll rather avoid even a possibility for it. Not sure if I even mentioned that I like aircooled VW`s because Ferdinand Porsche made initial drawings of the beetle and for some later developed ones, I like simplicity of these cars and most of all I like their designs (in my case, I`m very fond of the major lines on which their design resides). I believe that all of those styles of customization could confirm that. Shall I mention their reliability? ,)
The July piece... well, among others, this one played a significant role in my life, role in a music video, role in a humanitarian event and all in all - was a great fun. I do suspect it was possessed since that car made me do some really silly things ,) As you could see, originally eyes were different from these, since I share that opinion about D`s production, but they have made it first and I`m still an animator - can`t help it ,) It`s really hot here these days and maybe I was a bit lazy to figure out some other way.

Re: Maestral and other winds...
great showcase for your talent, and the biohazard beetle definitely belongs in your calendar!
Your mind is what you think it is.
Re: Maestral and other winds...
Thanks druban, will make some room for toxic beetle.
Actually, I do need images for January and February pages. Perhaps this one could be appropriate one for January? Rehab and stuff ,)

Re: Maestral and other winds...
Yeah, the beetle is slick! Not so much the colors but the body looks cool. I'd have gone with some less aggressive colors and a non-black background. But that's just my opinion...
The October piece is nice, too. It's that clean look again, which I like. That, and the fact that these old cars looked sooo much cooler than most of what's being built nowadays :D

Re: Maestral and other winds...
This October model is one of the rare ones which I would not miss in my garage, but it does have it`s place in a wide range of vw aircooled types.
p.s.
Apparently toxic beetle needs some more room for it self, so I added a link to the owners blog ,)
