I'm trying to add the LPE Knot to a 66-node interlaced path. When I apply the effect, the path stroke disappears completely! If I "hide" the Knot effect in the Path Effects dialogue, it reappears. I have tried changing the Fixed Width value to 0 and even to negative numbers, as well as every possible combination of the three checkbox options below it, but the path never reappears. If I select the node tool, I can see the red path outline and the switcher, though of course editing with the switcher has no visible effect, since the stroke is not visible.
The kicker is that I used this LPE as a step in creating another part of the drawing I’m working on. The Knot LPE is a crucial part of the easiest & most efficient method I've figured out of creating interlace patterns (e.g. Celtic knots). I can do it without the Knot LPE, but it will take longer and be a bigger pain in the neck. Anybody have any ideas on why I am having trouble? (Maybe I'll post a tutorial, if only I can get Knot to work again!)
(Also, I'm a newbie to the board. What's the protocol for adding attachments? SVG files only, or for illustration purposes, are PNGs acceptable? )

Welcome to the forum !
Both fileformats are allowed. Attaching the problematic file is always helpful for the best support.

Re: LPE Knot making path disappear!?
Hm. I was playing around to isolate the path in its own file, and simplify it (for copyright reasons as much as any other reason), and have been able to make at least parts of it reappear. I'm going to play around with it more. I’m looking at the XML editor too although I have virtually zero experience with it...
Meanwhile, I have attached that simpler version. The Knot effect is hidden. When I unhide it (via the eyeball icon on the Path Effects dialogue), the whole thing disappears completely. I’ve found that it’s not just the stroke that disappears; it’s as if Inkscape “forgets” about the path. CTRL-A under the Selector tool won’t even select it. Neither will rubber-band selector.

Right, the 'd' value for that path (where usually the nodes / Bézier curves would be specified) is empty after the knot path effect was applied... It seems that the distances between the nodes are too small. What works is resizing the path (enlarge to about double page height).

If you make it smaller again, it will sometimes vanish when you move it... I guess this deserves a bug report if there isn't one yet. Would you take a look through them over at https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape ?
