Inkscape app for android?
Inkscape app for android?
I'm quite new to these forums but even I see how useful an Inkscape app for my android tablet would be. However after a general Google search I can only seem to find windows and Mac versions. Is there an Android version of Inkscape? And if so where could I get it?
Re: Inkscape app for android?
Welcome to InkscapeForum!
Not specifically an Android version, that I know of. But I think there's a mobile version. Is that what you mean?
Inkscape also runs on Linux operating systems.
As an open source project, Inkscape isn't prone to such rapid development, as would be necessary for what you're asking. Unless I don't understand what you're asking. Isn't an Android tablet something similar to an iPad? Or are you talking about a graphics tablet, such as a Wacom?

Re: Inkscape app for android?
Yes by tablet I meant similar to an ipad, mine is a Android MID tablet and I just felt at app was something that really should be out there. From my very basic experience drawing cartoons with Inkscape alot of my drawings involved simply dragging nodes and adding colour. This would only be made easier using a touch-screen interface.
Though as you say, with Inkscape being open source I wasn't holding out much hope for there being an app about. The main thing that got me excited was seeing an app for Mac. http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/18954/inkscape
but sure I was just hoping that if there was and app someone could steer me in the right direction.
Thanks Anyway.

Re: Inkscape app for android?
No, there isn't an android version. Inkscape has Mac/Linux/Windows version as well as a portable apps version (one you can put on a usb stick to use without installing).
Making a version for a different platform takes a lot of work, especially for mobile platforms as they are more prescriptive in how applications are built. building one for android would mean rewriting the entire application in java, which is rather impractical to say the least.

Re: Inkscape app for android?
I was wondering if it can run on Linux for Android? Using a stylus I can envision myself making sketches for as long as the battery last (as that would probably take some heavy toll with a complete Linux).
It would be way cool to use something like a Galaxy Note and start making drawings with it. The one thing I wonder is how much work it would be to compile a Inkscape version that doesn't show all the buttons and menu options to make the screen cleaner. Or maybe it can be forced to display the window out of the bounds of the screen as a workaround? Any dev that can give some insight on this issue?
Has anyone here any experience running Linux on Android? And if so, is Inkscape still usable?

Re: Inkscape app for android?
Sorry to bump up an old thread but I've just found this Android app which can export to Inkscape. Thought it might interest some people here.

lmt337 I find the app you refer to amazing. It's worth trying the free version which shows on the left side to see how well it's adapted for drawring in SVG on Android!
I'd first tried Simplector which has a few advantages but is no where near as well finished a product, or as easy to use. I did just notice it had a pro version too, which seems to support animation among other things!
