Use Inkscape as Digital Calligraphy Pad

Postby WisdomWarlord » Mon Aug 17, 2015 4:02 am

I'm not an artist, but I do have a rather unique hand writing (printing actually) style that I want to use while writing my gf. I want to "calligraphize" it with my tablet pc, which I see that Inkscape .91 I can do quite easily. However, when I write, the digital ink doesn't show up until I lift the pen. I can't imagine anyone writing or drawing or painting like that. What do I do to get the digital ink to flown from my tablet pen while I am laying it down as opposed to after I'm done with the stroke and lift away?

My tablet specs are:
Lenovo ThinkPad x61 convertible laptop.
Wacom digitizer.
Active pen with 256 points of pressure sensitivity, and an eraser.
8GB of RAM, including 384MB allocated to video ram.
120GB ssd
Windows 10 Home x64

Thanks
Keith

I noticed here on my system that the calligraphy tool :tool_calligraphic: can have quite some lag (which is more or less normal, given the large amount of nodes it produces).
Is it actually only when you lift the pen that the stroke is displayed, or is it just a question of time (delay)? I mean, let's say you write something (eg. one letter), and instead of lifting the pen, you leave the pen immobile on your drawing tablet, does the writing appear on screen eventually?
If it's a question of lag (delay), you could try some of the tips here: Tips to avoid performance issues.
(If it's really just calligraphy you want, you could also think about using Mypaint for instance? If necessary, you can export from there into Inkscape).
