Hello! I have created a logo for a project at our church, and would appreciate your comments and suggestions.
The project is called Books for Pastors, and has the purpose of providing Christian books for pastors around the world.
I have attached the SVG inside a zip file for any changes you might propose. Note that the font used in the text is AGaramond LT.
Please help me with any design comments for this logo. It will be used for postcards/business cards within the church family, with expectation of also using the logo on hats and/or polo shirts.
Thanks for your comments to help me learn both the Inkscape product and the logo design process.
Don

Re: Comments and Suggestions on logo
Hi.
It would look much better in monochrome.
What are those swashes at the bottom part, and what do they represent?
In my opinion you better left those out. Then scale the book part maybe?
And scale the cross over the top too?
Maybe the blue circle behind would be unnecessary after.
Attached is an svg with a bit of technical cleaning up.
Still I'm not sure about the concept: the cross rules the book,
the book is the cross, or
the cross is the sum of the book as it is rising from the inside?
Both of these can be read from the logo, which is a bit mixed up.
How could a book teach more than what was put behind that ancient symbol two thousand years ago?

Re: Comments and Suggestions on logo
Hi.
I like the logo.
One thing to change is the text where the placement of the letters seems a bit 'messed up'',
to place it use 'text along path' with the path (circle) having the same center as the book circle.
See 'the manual' ; http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... -Path.html
Good Luck

Re: Comments and Suggestions on logo
The way I see it, the blue circle is the earth, and those white swishes are meant to imply the rotation of the earth. They don't quite have the proper curve to be totally successful (to me).
I rather like the logo too, although I'm certainly not an expert on logos. But it does look like something I'd expect for how you describe the program.
I made some quick edits to show my interpretation with the swishes. Fixed the cross which its horizontal bar was off center, and the whole cross slightly off center from the earth (if that's what it is). And then generally changed the proportions to something that just seems balanced to my eye. And again, I'm not an expert. I changed some of the colors, also to something that seems balanced to me. Although I think mine has 6 colors, counting white (which I know is supposed to be too many colors for a logo). I'd probably change the font on the text, if I had more time to experiment. Something equally as bold, but just a little softer around the edges -- maybe like Tahoma or one of the Franklin Gothic (both free on Windows).

Re: Comments and Suggestions on logo
Thanks for these comments, and the files. I am going to re-visit some parts of the logo to be sure there are no confusing aspects to it, and to also make sure the components line up best.
Brynn, thanks for your comments. You are correct that the blue circle/swooshes are to represent the world, and I would be glad for other suggestions to convey the world-wide aspect of the program. As in my original comment, "The project is called Books for Pastors, and has the purpose of providing Christian books for pastors around the world." I would also entertain any thoughts about how best to convey this sentence.
Thanks again, and I look forward to more comments.

I think it does a good job conveying that already.
