If I draw a text area, the whole text area is filled with color instead of t only he letters.
What can be the reason?

What tool are you using to draw a "text area"?

Can you post the file? I can't reproduce what you've described when creating a text object using :tool_text:

... unless you have a stroke set for the text object that has a very large width.

Sorry, I don't know, how to upload a file here. You can find that example file under:
http://test.tilopamonk.de/test.svg

I tried with dragging :tool_text: and then copied the text into the area.

That looks OK when I view it in Inkscape.

It doesn't look OK in other SVG viewers. Is that what you're asking about?

Likewise. Everything looks normal in Inkscape but Opera shows nothing.

flowRoot and flowPara were removed from the specs and there is no replacement yet. Inkscape is the only renderer which can display that stuff.

Usual text (e.g. if you un-flow it) is handled fine by other renderers tho.

Yes that's it. As it works so fine in inkscape it would be good to have an inkscape viewer Plugin for browsers.

No, BAD idea. Doing so would only encourage the development of incorrect SVG code. That's the kind of thing MS does.
