Hi Friends,
A few years ago I used a really nice little smiley manager (SmileyPad) into which you could load your smileys, and which then provided drag and drop functionality. So the little window could be docked and hidden, and you could mouseover the dock area to roll out the smiley window. Then just drag and drop a smiley into forum, or chat, or email message. Just really slick! But it apparently became the victim of a bad breakup (yikes). I still used it for a long time in Windows XP, but it seems to need some fixing up, to work with Windows 7
Since I could no longer use it, I made my own little smiley manager, using OpenOffice Writer. There's no drag and drop, but I can right-click > Copy Link, and still fairly easily insert a smiley image into a message. But since Inkscape is my go-to graphics app, it would be awesome if I could use Inkscape for my personal smiley manager. It might handle the load of images better than OO -- a little over 400 smiley images
The problem is that I can't easily copy the URL from each little smiley image on the Inkscape canvas. I would have to right-click, open Link Properties, then copy the URL. Compared to the OO setup, I would have to open an extra window to get the URL.
So the reason I'm posting in Inkscape ideas, is to ask if there might be any other reason why adding Copy Link (or Copy Link Location, or Copy URL or etc.) to the context menu would be helpful. I always like to be careful about asking for new features, because the devs are so busy already. But if there were any other benefit(s), besides my one puny wish, it might make a new feature request more worthwhile.
Otherwise, if I were just bound to use Inkscape to manage my smileys, I guess I'd need to look into making something like an interactive Inkscape doc which I could put on my server. (server is new, and I'm still learning the many ways I can use it)
I guess I've also thought of trying this with Scribus. I'll have to upgrade my current copy, and do a little test, to find out if it supports the copy link feature/function. It might handle images better than OO, as well, although it seems like Inkscape would be ideal. Hhmmm....maybe GIMP?? I'll try a test with GIMP too!
Anyway, if anyone knows any other potential benefits to adding Copy Link to Inkscape's objects context menu, I'd be interested to learn about it
Thanks for comments

Re: copy link/link location?
Hi.
Good idea. Do the links point to a drop-box or something similar?
Can we have an example of a SVG file with some smileys please?

Re: copy link/link location?
Well, it just has one loaded into it, because I wanted to test it, but this is it.
Edit
Well I didn't notice this before. Under Link Properties, there's Follow Link. But it doesn't seem to work. Oh wait, let me check the link. I might have moved the image. Not that following the link will solve the problem of copying the link. But I should at least have a workable link for testing Hold on and let me check the link.
Edit #2
No, the link is good!

To answer your question, the link points to wherever the image lives on the internet. The image's URL. Could be dropbox. In this case, my new site (not yet public). The idea is that the link would be automatically copied onto the system clipboard. It would just like right-clicking any active link. In Firefox, it's called Copy Link Location. In IE, I think it says Copy Link, but I can't remember for sure.
