Dear all,
My basic question is this: can I tell inkscape to always save/export files to my Windows desktop and never to any other directory unless I tell it to do so?
I've been looking through Inkscape preferences but didn't see anything like that. Depending on a file's location, it seems Inkscape tries to guess where I'd like to save it. Most annoyingly, the guess is often Window's "My Documents" folder which I never use. Many files ended up there accidentally.
If everything would go to desktop by default, that would save me a lot of mouse clicks.
Thanks everyone in advance!!
Can I set default folder for saving/exporting files?

Whenever you save a file for the first time, there's a dialog that asks you for 2 things -- it asks you to name the file, and asks you where you want to save it. Just choose the desktop. Then whenever you save that file, from that time, it will be saved on the desktop.
If files that you've already saved are not on the desktop, then instead of clicking File menu > Save, or the Save icon, use File menu > Save As, and it will give you the same 2 choices -- name and location. Choose to save to the desktop, and that's where it will stay, until you change it.
Instead of My Documents or the desktop, for images, you should use My Pictures. This folder is pre-configured to hold images, while the desktop is not necessary configured properly. Although I realize you certainly must have a reason to want them on the desktop.
Personally, my screen would be completely covered, 15 or 20 layers deep, if I put all my images on the desktop, lol.
