When I print out my finished work with inkscape it always the image gets cut off, regardless of size or borders HELP Pleeeease
Re: Printing Issues
I have the same problem...so I avoid it. I usually export my work out as a 300dpi png file and open it in an image viewer, like Irfanview or Gwenview, to print it off.

Re: Printing Issues
Hi,
I produced a fabulous brochure in Inkscape, but when I print, it looks third rate. The text is not crisp, it looks terrible. I selected all the text and then selected "turn to path". I have exported and opened in Preview and then printed, and I have saved as PNG and opened in Photoshop, and everything I try, the results are the same, the text looks terrible when I print.
Please help out a newbie so I don't have to redo everything in a different program. PLLLEEASSSEEEEE!

Re: Printing Issues
ok hulalula, i need you to send me a lot of money to help you. it's the only way.
alright, let's try to get to the bottom of things. when you export your brochure, what dpi are you exporting to? most of the time that i want something to look really nice 300dpi usually cuts it for me.

Re: Printing Issues
Oh thank you heathnx! I have no money but will be so grateful if you could help me figure this out.
Yes, I do put in 300 dpi when I export, either as a bitmap or png

Re: Printing Issues
AND, the printout of the export is worse than not exporting. The type is lighter, more faint.
Re: Printing Issues
come on! you don't don't even have a couple of dollars stashed away in one of those secret pockets in your wallet? alright, forget it. i'll help you for free.
ok, are just the fonts printing terribly or your entire project? what kind of fonts are you using? could you dumb down this brochure and share it with us so that we could play with it? what version of inkscape are you using and what operating system are you on?

Re: Printing Issues
well, ok, the truth hurts, but it is really a very simple brochure. 2 color, no photos, mostly text, lots of white space, and a logo.
the font is century gothic, except for the logo.
i use mac osx 10.4.9
how do i send it to you?

Re: Printing Issues
send it to me anyway. i'll run it through my viewers and see if i can determine what is happening.
Re: Printing Issues
my fault. i assumed you new what to do there. remove the "NOSPAM" part of the email address.
Re: Printing Issues
it's usually *always* user error with me
Re: Printing Issues
ok, to keep everyone else in the loop, i got your svg file and i am in the process of reviewing it. so far though, everything looks fine to me when i rip a png off at 300dpi and print it. of course i changed your text color from gray to black so that the text was a little bolder.
Re: Printing Issues
are you sure youre using the right Printing options? Maybe it doesn't have anything to do with the file itself.
There are various qualities you can choose in most printers (draft, standard, high quality), if youre using draft (low quality) everything will be dotty and text will appear lighter. What paper are you using and did you mark it correctly in printing options? Some printers do a lot worse depending on the paper used.
Are you sure that your export is really 300dpi? It makes me suspect cos you said its even worse if you print exported instead of svg, the export dialog has a lot of boxes, it was very confusing for me when I first started using it. After you export the png, go and check its dpi, on Windows you can right click the file and choose Properties > Summary. If the file is really 300dpi its pixel size is going to be huge, when you preview it in actual size (in an image viewer) its going to be much bigger than the drawing in Inkscape. Also if the drawing is complex the exporting process can take a while (depending on your computer power), I've had it longer than 10 seconds with certain drawings.
One other thing that can be wrong is your monitor calibration (cos you said colors don't match between screen and print). http://www.photo-tech.co.uk/monitor_cal.html

Re: Printing Issues
you know that reminds of something. i have a co-worker who is absolutely retarded when it comes to viewing images on a computer. for example, i take many hi-res photographs. my co-worker will grab these images from our server and view them. but he always has his image viewer (irfanview) set to scale the image to the window, basically fitting the very large image to the size of the irfanview window. when this happens sometimes the images are pixelated. i do this too but i understand the consequences of doing it. he always questions my photography skills because of it and i have to explain AGAIN that what he is looking at is a "scaled" image. that is more true when working with graphic files that are 300dpi. when you scale them down to fit a viewer window they look bad until you view them in full scale. Images this size are usually meant for printing just like my photographs.
hmm...i wonder if my co-worker knows that he's retarded. i'm going to punch him in the stomach. i'll be right back.

Re: Printing Issues
I can create an OT tag. Can you post a link to an example so I can see how most forum admins style them.
That aside, if you want to share e-mail addresses my advice is to send them using private message. That's not a forum rule or anything, but I cringe at even disguised e-mail addresses Especially when they'll remain on the forum forever, unless edited.

Re: Printing Issues
My apologies everyone. You're right...a PM would have been proper. By the way, I think I got hulalula taken care of. I haven't heard back though.

Really...I do take good photos...they're the best.
