Extensions- perspective not working

Postby Moustafa » Tue Jul 14, 2015 6:17 am

Hi All,

I am new to Inkscape and have been watching videos & reading your forum to learn some simple tools to make basic designs. I tried to use Extensions- perspective but Inkscape runs error message: Runtime error and shows the path of Pythonw.exe with a message that this programs has requested the runtime to terminate it.

I googled this error and it seems that I am not the only one who had such error message but the solutions I find on other boards are too advances and include root alternation and writing scripts. I am not that advanced technically and looking for simple instructions to follow.

I used both 0.91 and 0.48.5 and both have the same error message.

Can someone help me with this please.

Hi.

It "does work" here; knowing the right context may help sorting out the problem.
My guess would be you try to process too much data for your machine -there are are more topics here on how to improve the performance-.
Did you test the extension on a simple path with a few nodes, or on a complex one with thousands of nodes, made by trace bitmap?

If the latter, you can try splitting up the path to "smaller" parts before, each of them with the same sized bounding box.

HI Lazur,

I tried it with very simple test text and 4 nod path and got the same runtime error.

On my version it displays

"The first selected object is not a path.

Try using the procedure Path->Object to Path."

error message when trying to distort a text.

After converting it to a path -Ctr+Shift+C-, ungrouping characters -Ctrl+Shift+G- and combining them together (Ctrl+K), it works here.
(Based on the manual only converting text to paths is enough, I just prefer to have one path instead of a group.)

Sorry but not much ideas left.

Probably the issue is related to the operating system and version you use -oh you tested them both-.
In that case there may be a bug report already.
Other than that, theoretically it still can be a performance issue of your machine.

Hello
The perspective extension have to work without problems, unless you have some strange configuration in your machine.

- If you could copy & paste the exact message that appears when you run the extension. Or post a screenshot of all the message

Maybe We are missing some information
- Which version of Inkscape are you using. In order to get all clear. It's better to use just One version in One machine. And to have it un - installed and Installed from zero.
- Which operative system do you have (Windows, Linux, Mac OS)?
- Do you have Python installed in your machine?
- Have you tried other extensions? If it's more than one, I could bet it's an installation problem
- Do you use a special language in your system?. I remember some time ago, some Chinese (forgive me if I'm wrong) users reported problems when using special text characters... so who knows?
- Depending of your Operative System, Yo should have in your Username Carpet a sub carpet called inkscape. Inside of that it should exist a file called extension-errors.log. Maybe it has more information, that could help to solve the problem... or not
- Nothing of the above :|

Greetings
If you have problems:
1.- Post a sample (or samples) of your file please.

Hi There,

Thank you for your help. I uninstalled inkscape and deleted the folder from program file then reinstalled it again. Everything now working properly.

Thank you very much.
