[solved] 3d box defaults?

Postby brynn » Fri Oct 03, 2008 10:13 am

Hi Friends,
I'm gonna try to work with the 3d box tool :tool_3dbox: in a more serious way than I have before, when I was only playing around. Unfortunately, in my playing around, the perspective lines became separated from the box, and I can't figure out how to get them back together. So how do I get the 3d box tool back to its default settings? I know some tools have a button on the toolbar to reset the defaults, but it's not there on the 3d box toolbar.

Thanks for your help :D

Mhmm, don't know exactly what you mean by the prespective lines being seperated.

However, if you have the :tool_3dbox: tool selected and look at the tool options toolbar, you'll see buttons that look like two parallell lines, try selecting them (or deselecting them). They will allow you to modify/move the box's prespective lines
Perhaps that might help.

Thanks zials, I've tried that. It does make the box more like a box, but the perspective lines still are not connected to the box. Maybe I should put up a quick image. Hold on...

Whoa!!! Ok, now they are connected as they should be. Weird!!

Well, in any case, I still would like to reset the defaults, if possible?

^ Well, the thing is, I don't think it has any "defaults" (this is simply my conclusion based on playing around with the 3D Box tool)

Generally, in the :tool_3dbox: tool's options only the middle 'parallel lines' are enabled with an Angle Y of 90.00
Now, as for the funky box, it depends on where on the canvas you are drawing. In my experience, one prespective line converges at the right side of the canvas, and the other converges at the left side.

In other words, draw a box outside the canvas, and you'll get a weird box. Draw another box in the middle of your page, and you'll get a normal looking box. However, I'm not sure if I've flicked an option that makes it behave this way, but my assumption is that this is how the 3d Box tool works.

Long story short, try drawing a box somewhere else on the canvas (preferably in the middle of your page)

Thanks zials, I'll try setting the Y parallel to 90.

I don't get how one could draw outside the canvas???

^ Gah, m'head must've been somewhere else. I meant outside page instead of canvas. The perspective lines meet at the left and right side of the page. So drawing inside the page will give better results than drawing outside the page.

Good deal!
Hopefully I won't get any more of the separation thing.
Thanks for your help zials :D
