My first attempt at Inkscape (graphically challenged!). The logo is viewable here: http://www.acdorchester.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=17&Itemid=184. The size I created in Inkscape was 200x200px. I wanted it to be 130x130px. You can see that there is text arranged arround the circle (actually 2 invisible circles and the "55 FORUM" around the visible outer one). If I try to select all layers and resize in the h/w boxes the text does not resize and the kerning changes. I have exported to png8 and resized that in firefox (the result you see) but would like to know how to do it in Inkscape (you'll probably tell me its easier to start off with the right size!).
Any other comment about improving this logo welcome. Thanks.
Resizing a Logo
Re: Resizing a Logo
I don't know why the text would not resize, but if all you're after is a bitmap at the right size, you can choose the size when you export it.

Re: Resizing a Logo
Perhaps when I selected edit - select all in all layers this did not select the text objects. Yes, I resized it in Fireworks. If there was a way of including an image I could show you the effect.

I was going to suggest that any smaller, and the words on the directional arrows couldn't be read. But after checking its Properties, it looks as if you've already resized it successfully? (Properties shows me 132 x 132 px.)
I can barely make out the words, and only by putting on my reading glasses and leaning way in towards the screen. And I use the 800 x 600 screen resolution, which makes things much bigger (usually, but not always, it depends how the webpage I'm viewing was made). I need this to compensate for rather severe cataracts (yes, I'm fast approaching the "senior years"

So I'm sharing all this personal information as a way of suggesting that many of your website's visitors and organization members / participants may have the same experience. And that perhaps you might try to make those directional arrows a little bit wider, to accomodate taller letters.
And if you would indulge me a couple of other comments... It looks to my eye like those directional arrows could easily be made wider, as proportionally, they seem too thin to me, as they are now. And I think you have room to do so, without making the overall logo larger. I think if you "spin" the sign post a little further around, and move it to the left only a little, it would make room for the arrows on the right to be widened. Of course there's plenty of room already for widening the left arrow. But it may have to be shortened slightly. If that happens, maybe you could switch "community" to that arrow, since it's a shorter word?
So anyway, they're just some ideas. Overall I like the symbolism of the outward pointing arrows, of your organization reaching out to share your thoughts, views, etc., and also of being a guidepost for your members / participants. It's a very nice logo!
All best,
Brynn
PS - Sometimes if there are invisible objects in an image, as you indicated, you might miss them when selecting, because you can't see exactly where they are. Or if you've made them invisible by closing the visibility of a layer, they will not be selected. You'd have to upload a png elsewhere, then you can insert it into a message here. Info on where to upload: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7 (I like ImageShack.)
