Hello

Is there a way in Inkscape to colour a shape (specifically a letter) in two different colours? For example, with the letter "V" having one side one colour and the other side another?

Hi darossi,
you could use a gradient, with both stops placed directly next to each other (zoom in massively to select them).
Or you can split the shape into two, and color each half differently.
Or you duplicate it, and cut one half of the upper duplicate away, to avoid anti-aliasing effects, that might create a small seam between both halves.

Turn the letter into a path (this means that you won't be able to edit the text anymore) by selecting the text object, then doing Path -> Object to path (this will result in a group of paths, each one a single letter). Ungroup (Shift+Ctrl+G).

Duplicate your V, so you have one as a backup (and it will serve as the second half, as it will lie underneath the cut half).
Add a rectangle that covers the half of the letter you want to cut away (above the V).
Select both the V and the rectangle, do Path -> Difference.
The result will lie directly above the 'backup'-V, so it may be hard to see.
Just change its color, then you can see it. Done

Converted the text into paths and ungroup.

The 'O' was done with clipping (the pattern is a group of three rectangles, but i edited them to overlap so there would be no gap visible).

The 'i' with 'Break apart'.

Infinite possibilities - I somehow guessed there would be a clipping somewhere in your process

EDIT: oh wait, i didnt clip it, i masked it...but clipping would've worked the same.

Anyway, i favour non destructive methods.
