Inkscape pastes and centers on cursor

Postby fejack » Tue Dec 16, 2008 7:14 pm

Did you know that when you paste an item, Inkscape will centers it on the cursor position?
This is a time-saving feature when you need to do multiple-copies and carefully position each new instance.

Duplicate and Clone leave the new instance on top of the original.

I didn't realise that either. I always used the duplicate options because I never figured out the logic of where it would be placed--now I know :)

It centres on the cursor unless you do paste in place (Ctrl+Alt+V), in which case it puts it where it was copied from, ala duplicate. (useful if your wanting to paste to a new layer)

Try stamping. Drag the thing around and everywhere you want to have a duplicate, press space. (We still need the same for clones btw.)

Stamping is fun!!! I didn’t know that one either, thanks aho!

I just discovered one other thing (perhaps everybody else knows about it, but I didn’t… :? ):

Press ctrl and click somewhere on the empty canvas - draw the cursor towards the objects - the first thing that comes in the way gets selected.

I don’t know if that’s useful, but I like it when I have to select some edge.
