How to remove multiple guidelines in one action?

Postby ErikTiePie » Thu Nov 27, 2008 8:50 pm

Hello all,

I am working on a drawing and I dragged many (several dozens) guidelines in my drawing.

Now I am at the point that I don't need most of the guidelines anymore. I can remove them one by one, by dragging them back to the ruler again, but that's an annoying task.
I also know how to hide them all, but as soon as I drag a new one on, all other guidelines get visible as well.

Is there a way one can remove ALL guidelines in one action?

I searched this forum, the manual(s) and internet for a solution, but haven't found anything yet.
Any help is appreciated.

Erik

You can't, that's why you didn't find anything. If you really want it than maybe you could try deleting them in the XML editor window, but only if you know what your doing...

I (accidently) found a way to remove all guides at once, last night. It's basically what D. Vlierop suggests, but I let Inkscape do all the hard work:

I have my drawing with the large amount of guidelines, which I Save as ... in the format plain SVG. Then I close the drawing and reopen it. All guides are gone now, but my drawing remains.

I'm very new to Inkscape and was just experimenting with it last night. I was trying to figure out what the difference was between Inkscape SVG and plain SVG and then noticed that one of the things is that guidelines are not saved in plain SVG. I don't know yet what else is left out and whether that may affect my drawing. But, with the very simple drawings I make now, I haven't found a difference yet.
