Node tool: duplicate nodes
Node tool: duplicate nodes
Hi, I'm trying to learn Inkscape (again - each time I get a little further) and I've been reading (http://www.inkscape.org/doc/keys047.html"smilies" src="images/smilies/tool_node.gif" alt=":tool_node:" title="Node" />
Re: Node tool: duplicate nodes
For me it works with inkscape 0.46. selecting nodes and ctrl+D or shift+D gives different results though...
Create path a select 2 nodes (bottom nodes):
Ctrl+D then move the 2 new nodes:
Instead of step 2, use shift+D then move the 2 new nodes:
So it is more like ctrl+D duplicates the selected nodes and shift+D inserts 2 new nodes

Re: Node tool: duplicate nodes
Hmmm. Thanks for trying this out for me. Maybe it's a version thing - it doesn't seem to be working the same way as in your post. I tried creating the same, 4 node object and selecting the bottom two nodes. Shift-D doesn't seem to do anything and Ctrl-D duplicates the entire object, not just the nodes (even though I'm in the node editor).
Perhaps it wouldn't be as useful as I'd hoped anyway - I thought it would work a different way so that you would be able to "extrude" a new shape, but mostly leave the original shape intact. So instead of your last image, you'd get something like .... numbering the lower four node from the left, 3 and 4 would be the same as the image, but 1 and 2 would be swapped: 1 would remain static and 2 would be selected.

Don't forget that you are using a development snapshot that has new tools added which are still under development - as is the case with the node tool: Inkscape 0.48 will use an extensively rewritten node tool, and apparently the shortcut to duplicate nodes has not yet been implemented in current builds (see also bug #555449 “Shift-D node duplication no longer works”)
