Hi there folks!
I've been using Inkscape for a while now and I like it. But, the thing is it crashes too often!... This wouldn't be a problem if, when restarted, it rocovered the document(s) that were open and unsaved before the crash.
I saw somewhere that someone recoverd his work. So, my questions are: does Inkscape auto-saves documents? If yes, where? If no, does Inkscape do any kind of recovery?
Thanks in advance for any awnsers
Quina
Recovering work after crash - is it possible?

Inkscape attempts to save documents when it crashes. It often fails. When it works, it saves to
C:\Documents and Settings\<name>\
Document are called
"New document 1.2009_03_03_12_34_29.0.svg"
or somesuch.
On linux, Inkscape will try to save to
1. your home directory as filename.<datetime>.#
2. /tmp/filename.<datetime>.#
3. the current directory as filename.<datetime>.#
The development version (and so, the next release) has an autosave feature, if you turn it on, with a selectable period and save location. It's as good a reason as any to use a development version.
Re: Recovering work after crash - is it possible?
Hi Slow Dog, thank you for your reply.
As a matter of fact I've found the information you mentioned regarding the attempt Inkscape makes to save on crash... anyway the file I needed was not in the folder.
I think I'll try your suggestion and migrate to a newer version, this way perhaps the next time my work is not completely lost!
Never the less, Inkscape still is a great tool.
Thank you once againg,
Quina

Re: Recovering work after crash - is it possible?
How can i find it on OSX ? Doesn´t see any folder who could be the right one.
Searched in the user folder, library-application support, etc but doesn´t find the right one.

Re: Recovering work after crash - is it possible?
In version 0.48, if something was saved during a crash, it can be found in the same folder where the image is. Although this is for Windows, I assume it would be the same for all operating systems. The name of is the same as the original image, with a bunch of numbers appended. It looks something like this for me: ImageName.svg.2010_11_13_22_15.0.svg (I suspect the numbers represent the year_month_day_hour_minute.0.svg but I'm only guessing.)
Previous versions, I don't know, but others will probably reply with that info.
