I have an elipse with a metel effect linear gradient, I like the effect of the filters/bevels/combined lighting which gives a nice curve to the edge of the elipse but... it has caused the fill to have lines nearer the edge which is unsightly at 100%. Particularly as there are holes cut out of the elipse (therefore more bevelled edges). Is there any way to avoid this as i would much prefer a smooth fill area not effected by the bevel.
If i haven't explained myself properly i'll try to upload a pic if required.
Thanks, David
Smoother combined lighting bevel?
Re: Smoother combined lighting bevel?
I'm not for sure that I understand your problem. But I've just started to play with filters and the Filter Editor. And I've been told that it's a good practice to Group between filters (or group before applying the next). Maybe you've already been doing that, but if not, I think definitely worth a try.

Re: Smoother combined lighting bevel?
Group your object and add Filter/Blur/Inner blur and reduce the blur amount of this filter
And if you find the result too smooth, group again, apply Filter/Color/Lightness and Contrast and change the k1 and k2 numeric entries in the first Composite primitive until you reach the result you want (increase k1 and decrase k2).

Ah ok.. thanks for the tips and info brynn/Ivan.
I'll try those and see how it works out.
For anyone else who needs to see what i am trying to achieve (or rather the effect i want to avoid) here's a snapshot at 100% showing those nasty little lines:

Re: Smoother combined lighting bevel?
Yes, I understood : those lines are a well known limitation of today's Inkscape rendering which lacks of color depth per channel. I think that will be solved in 0.49 or 0.50 release when it will be focused on the rendering engine.
My workaround works for most Bevel filters but not all of them.
