I have a persistent problem with Inkscape that the various dialogs get stuck off screen. With older versions of Inkscape, this was easy to fix, as the individual dialogs had their own Windows taskbar button, so all I had to do was right-click on that and move the window.

However, with the new version of Inkscape, the dialog windows no longer have their own button on the Windows taskbar. Thus, I have no way to bring the dialog back into view.

Upon reading some back-threads on the forum, I found a suggestion to change the Inkscape preferences for the windows to not save their location. I tried this, however, it just made all the dialogs appear off screen rather than only some of them.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

BTW, forgot to mention, I am currently using Inkscape version 0.46 on Windows 7 RC, although as I mentioned, I have been having this problem with all the versions of Inkscape I have used, and on Windows versions all the way back to XP.

Well, I finally gave up and just completely reinstalled Inkscape, allowing it to reset preferences. That set the dialogs back to their original locations. Who knows how long I'll have before they disappear again though.

If anyone comes up with a simpler solution, please don't hesitate to suggest it.

next time just find preferences.xml and delete it.

Running multiple monitors at various resolutions, the placement of dialogs drive me nuts also. The only trick I have is to press Alt+Space, then m (shortcut for "Move"), then tap ▼ (or any arrow-key). Now move your mouse and the dialog will attach itself to the mouse pointer. Once you've positioned the dialog so you can see it, left-click.

Point two at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2037#goto-delpref has the path for Windows.

I don't know what the search interface in Windows 7 is like but I heard it's close to the Vista interface. Here is how I find it when I'm being lazy:
