Drawing Free Hand Lines shape issue

Postby n0sandwich » Sat Jun 23, 2018 10:49 am

Hello, I am new to Inkscape so any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

I'm trying to learn how to use the :tool_pencil: tool. I'll choose a shape of "Triangle In", draw a curve, and want to increase the width. With the curve selected, I'll go to Path >> Path Effects. Currently, the only path effects I'll see applied is "Power Stroke". I tried adding "Patterns Along Path" and increasing the width that way but nothing happens. All the tutorials I've found already have the "Pattern Along Path" effect applied when they open Path Effects and are able to change the width that one. Am I missing something? :(

Two things you might check out:

1) The pencil tool makes a line with many nodes. To make a consistent sweeping curve, the bezier pen might be better. http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL ... ths-Bezier

2) The power-stroked line can be made thicker using the node tool. Drag on the pink node.
Have a nice day.

I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1

The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Triangle-in does no longer use the Pattern-Along-Path LPE. It uses PowerStroke LPE now, which can be modified as mentioned in TD's post, item 2.
