Great texturing. Is the texture a bitmap?

My only suggestion is to make the skin of the avacodo darker where it touches the table, perhaps by overlaying a radial gradient - at the moment, it looks kinda flat/2D. And I would try adding a subtle linear gradient over the flesh of the avacado from top to bottom to help create depth.

Hello microUgly

There is no bitmap, only SVG ! the way i did it is explained here in german : http://www.inkscape-forum.de/discussion/623/unregelmaessige-farbverlaeufe-in-flaechen-weichzeichner-ausschneidepfad/#Item_0%20:
the idea is to make the division of a form using a kind of grid (you get a lot of smal parts), then to simplify and erode the littel parts you have created, then to make it a group. Finaly, playing with blur, i've made a black and a white copy of the objects, both being not exactly superposed, what gives the "avocadoskin" effect.

I will try with adding some gradient and show the new result if it's good

I'm impressed! That's a mighty fine-looking avocado! Any plans on making an English version of the tutorial? Judging from your german tutorial, it seems that it's a technique that will benefit from the future introduction of the bucket too as well.

I suggest adding a bit more variation to the green part, especially that bigger piece: it's a bit too smooth. Maybe add some texture like you did with the larger end.

this is very impressive, I tried to read a translated version of the webpage, but I could not really understand the processes involved in constructing the gradient mesh for the skin. But all in all a great job.

I'm not sure if i understand your question... there is no "gradien mesh" in the skin but only a dark radial gradient. thanks for the compliment !

@ Whiteheron -- > thx i've try to change the flesh adding some variation but withouth success till now.

I was under the assumption that the avocado skin was made using a similar process such as this. But if it is not then I really did not understand the tutorial at all.

No it's not this way. I've seen this tutorial befor but i've not realy understood it ! If you mean the skin (and not the flesh), i explain my way ( i did fast the same for the lemon) :

1. Make plain green form of the avocadoskin duplicate it
2. then you have to cut it. a) make something like a grid (whit the pen or bezier tool)
b) You have to combine (ctrl-K) the lines you have done)
c) The select the the green avocadoskin and the grid
d) divide it, you will something like the first form :

3. from the first form, we make both the other, a dark and a bright one, the bright beeing smaler : a ) select the grean divided form and simplify (2-3 x)
b) erode inset it (make it smaler using the shape path menu)
c) erode inset and symplify till you get somthing like image 2 and 3 (using gaussian blur)
d) make it as a group

4. superpose the green plain form (at the bottom) the bright one (in the middel), and the dark one (on the top). If you want your avocado beeing lightned from both sides, you can enlarge the bright part, so it will make some volume

5. add a radial gradient, dark, on your skin.

I hope i answered your question and i was clear enough, dispite my hesitating english

I will give this a try and hopefully when I finish I will end up with an avocado. Will definitely give this many attempts until successful.

Try repeated simplification. (Ctrl + L)

Sorry, i have a french version of inkscape. The shortcut to "erode" is : ctrl+( It make each part smaler.
