My SVG files have disappeared!
My SVG files have disappeared!
Well, before you tell me anything, I keep my SVG files in my inkscape folder. Anyway, like the topic title says, one day I discovered my SVG files were all gone. All of them. I think I had other images in there as well. Basically, my SVGs and PNGs were gone, without a trace. My undelete didn't even find them. I don't know when it happened but it's been a month or two since I discovered it. I figured i'd come here and see if anyone knew why everything would disappear but the program itself (and its own files)
Re: My SVG files have disappeared!
Did you do a search to see if they were still on your computer? Did you uninstall the program and then reinstall? Inkscape itself would not delete your svgs
Re: My SVG files have disappeared!
That depends entirely on whether installing a new version counts as an uninstall. I might've upgraded at some point.
Re: My SVG files have disappeared!
I shouldn't think Inkscape will remove any folders or files it doesn't recognise as a part of its installation.
It may not be too late, but for future reference, if your files are deleted (or you suspect it) do everything you can to stop any software writing to the harddrive. Then run an application such as Recuva to see if it can dig up the deleted files. If it's truely irreplaceable data, as soon as you discover the files are missing, turn off your PC, remove the HDD and mount it as a second harddrive in another PC (i.e. don't boot off your drive). This will make sure that Windows or any other software does not write files over where the deleted files were located on the physical disk. Then run Recuva.
I wouldn't assume you could recover the deleted files after a month - but you might.
