Quick help on a project

Postby LogiBear » Tue Feb 01, 2011 2:03 pm

I have a project due soon, and I want to use a graphic with my cricut so I don't have to do so much cutting with an exacto knife. I got the sure cuts a lot 2 program and inkscape, but it says it has to be an outline. When I put it in inkscape to make it an outline, it says something about no objects to path. I'm completely lost with this. Is there anyone who can help me get this graphic as an outline so I can get it to scal2? It's a circle made with arrows that all have to be cut.

Hi LogiBear,
Welcome to the forum! Image
Is there anyone who can help me get this graphic as an outline so I can get it to scal2?

Absolutely, we're here to help :D

I got the sure cuts a lot 2 program and inkscape, but it says it has to be an outline.

Which program says this, the cutting program? Just want to be clear.

When I put it in inkscape to make it an outline, it says something about no objects to path.

Could you please tell us the exact text of the message? And also, is this message coming from Inkscape, or the other program?
What format is your image to start with (what letters appear after the dot .) ? And what format does "scal2" or cricut require?

Sure cuts a lot 2 says it has to be an outline. To make it an svg file I have to use inkscape. But the object can't be embedded. The graphic I want to use is a .jpg. Someone was able to help me make it work in scal2 already, but i'd like to know how to do this in the future for myself. They said something about having to trace it or something. I am so new to all this! LOL, thanks for your help!

Ah, ok! Yes, it has to be converted from JPG to SVG, and that is done using Path menu > Trace Bitmap. "bitmap" should be "raster" imo, because a lot of people assume it has to be a BMP to be traced. But in reality, it converts any raster image to SVG. In many cases, Trace Bitmap will work well for you. In other cases, you might want to use this trace engine: http://www.roitsystems.com/cgi-bin/autotrace/tracer.pl with the Centerline option. (Trace bitmap doesn't have a centerline trace option.)
