Plastik Models Magazine
Hello,
I'm the editor of a free digital magazine, named Plastik Models. Its all about scale models, my hobby .
I've been using Corel Draw X3 since the magazine's 2nd edition, but I'm tired of M$ and all things behind it...
After a few Google searches, I found Inkscape, Scibus and Ubuntu 7.10, and I decided do give them a go. For now I'll keep XP and X3 for a backup, but I'll try to publish the Fourth edition (and beyond) only with Open Source, using all of the above.
For now, I have to say Inkscape is a nice surprise, not a Corel Draw X3, but a really powerful title... I just need to get the work philosophy right, and I'll be on my way.
Current editions (using only Corel Draw 12 and X3):
When I have it, I'll post the WIP...
Regards,
Carlos Jorge

Re: Plastik Models Magazine
Thanks microUgly.
I've been busy with work, but I managed to do the cover, 100% with Inkscape, nothing is imported from other softwares.
It's not completely as I'd like, but I'll revisit the cover later when I have more things started.
Regards,
Carlos Jorge

Re: Plastik Models Magazine
I never used the SVG format, this is great to work with.
I'm really enjoying Inkscape, too bad I don't have the time I would like to learn.
I'll try to make some progresses this weekend, I hope you like the work.

Carlos Jorge

Hi there
Very good start as I can see. Keep up the good work and show us some pages from the magazine.
I'm using Inkscape and Scribus (and Gimp too) for my work too. Although I'm using Vista because some apps I use for engineering are not working in linux, all my apps for graphic design are open sourced. And customers are happy too, which is a great proof, that open source apps are competitive

Re: Plastik Models Magazine
Thanks for your comment .
Unfortunately I'm working on another project and I don't have the time for this, maybe in a few days I'll start posting here some new pages...
If you go to http://www.templarsquadron.com, in the Showroom, under my name, you can see what I'm up to . The research time consumes all my free time, but everything is in Inkscape. Two of the crosses I found googling (Ordem de Avis and Ordem de Sant'iago), the others made them myself.
Can you show us some of your work? It would be great to see what can be done with these 2 (or 3) Open Source softwares.
Regards,
Carlos Jorge

This is a poster I made for a discobar in Slovakia. It's basically a template. I only change the left side of the poster every week, depending on the type of event. This is completely done in Inkscape.

That's a sweet layout. I assume those balls aren't vector?

Nice job. What fonts do you use for the poster?

Thanks No, those discoballs is actually image of a single ball, placed in clipping path and the copied and transformed.

Main font is Myriad Pro. Bud I can't remember the other font names and in the source SVG the texts are already converted to curves...

Re: Plastik Models Magazine
Here is an update, I guess by the end of the week I have it finished...
The vector part is SVG from Inkscape, the text and images were done inside Scribus.

Congrats I'm actually working on a catalogue for a company, that makes concrete building profiles. It's completely done in Scribus though, so I won't post it here
