Has anyone ever tried using Pantone Color Manager with Inkscape? From their website: http://www.pantone.com/pantone-color-manager-software

PANTONE COLOR MANAGER Software is a robust desktop application that works in tandem with your favorite design software to ensure you always have the most up-to-date set of PANTONE Colors available at your fingertips.

Looks like it works with Adobe, QuarkXPress, and Corel. I emailed them on this, and they said if Inkscape can import libraries in Adobe format, it may be possible to save the libraries from PANTONE Color Manager and import them.

Seems like a useful tool . . .

Hhmm, somehow I think if this was possible, someone would have done it already. But in any case, you'll need to post somewhere else, to be able to reach the attention of developers. For example, the development mailing list (or the user list will reach them as well) -- https://inkscape.org/en/community/mailing-lists/, or there's an IRC channel -- for users: https://inkscape.org/en/community/discussion/ and there's a link to a developer channel on that same page.

And a question from a not-so-tech-savvy user. Since Adobe is a proprietary product, can anyone legally use their libraries?

It would be good news for a lot of would-be Inkscape users, who need color management for professional work. Although Pantone would be just 1 type of color mgmt , I'm sure it still would be very popular.

Thanks for the helpful reply. I went ahead and posted it to the user mailing list (was not aware of this), so hopefully it will get to the right people. And I agree: adding support for things like pantone colors would make an already great product even better.

If I'm not misunderstanding your question, I believe Pantone Colors would just output the library in a format readable by Adobe libraries. I don't think it would be a part of Adobe's products or copyright/license.

What do you expect to do with pantone color manager ?

AFAIK PCM can export a set of colors as a photoshop color palette file (*.aco)
