Hi!

I have inkscape (latest stable version) on a 32-bit windows xp machine. I'm having issues importing my svg files onto the latest version of scribus. It seems that text objects are read fine by scribus and firefox, however there are a few of my text boxes which are mysteriously flowroot objects (not text ones). the flowroot objects are not read by scribus or firefox.
I am wondering how to turn my text boxes into text objects. Whenever I create a text box, the object is automatically tagged as a flowroot. What seems the most strange to me is that only some of my text boxes are flowroots...

I have a simple workaround where I convert my text to path, but I'd like to have the option to edit this text easily in the future.

I can't speak to the flowroot issue. But one sort of workaround might be to convert the text to path, but save the text on a hidden layer. Then you could edit, duplicate, and convert to path. And still have the original text available for future edits. Of course if you need to edit frequently, this probably not an ideal solution. Maybe someone else will know about the flowroot issue?

Read all about regular text and flowed text in the manual and in the FAQ, or e.g. in these earlier comments here in the forum: 1, 2, 3, 4 and probably lots of others…

In short:

• '<flowRoot>' is part of Inkscape's Flowed text (as opposed to regular text).
• Flowed text is created
  1. when dragging a frame with the text tool before entering the text.
  2. when flowing text into a frame (menu 'Text > Flow into Frame')
• For regular text, click once with the text tool (do not drag!!), and enter the text right away.
• To convert flowed text into regular text, save a copy of the file and use the menu command 'Text > Convert to text' in the copy (to be able to edit the flowed text later on in the original if needed - not necessary for logos or other short text objects!).
• Technical information: Inkscape's flowed text implementation was based on an earlier draft for SVG 1.2 which was later discarded. Hence this feature is not supported by other SVG renderers (or importers) because it does not conform to the current SVG 1.1 specification.

Oh, if I had known that, I could have answered the question. The way I read the message, I thought it was Scribus calling the text "flowroot". And I know little about Scribus.
