In Snow Leopard Inkscape installs just fine, either .46 and .47. However, once I run it CPU goes up to 99% and it takes forever to start. Once on the screen it is as responsive as you'd expect an app with 99% CPU. There are no error messages or warnings in the terminal so I can't really tell whats going wrong.
I'm using macports 1.8 on 10.6.1 on an MBP 3.1. Everything up to date.

Do you have lots of fonts installed? It was reported it affects the load time.

Re: Macports and Snow Leopard
Ask on the macports-users mailing list. The maintainer of the inkscape portfiles has been very supportive with any inkscape issues... and he also maintains the gnome/gtk ports (in case it's more related to one of the dependencies installed by inkscape).
Did you rebuild MacPorts from scratch as recommended?
Do you have other ports installed on SL like GIMP? Do they launch without issues?

Re: Macports and Snow Leopard
No, not many fonts installed. Just the usual stuff.
Yes, built everything from scratch.
I now use the dmg package from Sourceforge. Does the job for now.

see gtk2/pango apps taking *forever* to startup:

Re: Macports and Snow Leopard
Yes - this is a known issue: Inkscape 0.46 doesn't run on Snow Leopard due to incompatible library versions. You have to wait for the soon-to-be-released Inkscape 0.47 version or you can download the most recent prerelease build from sourceforge.net. Note: most of the extensions (aka Effects in Inkscape 0.46) do not work yet on Snow Leopard. This will hopefully be fixed in the final release.
