can't save to eps

Postby keisha321 » Tue Sep 30, 2014 12:14 pm

I have a file comprised of a lot of images that are simple outlines. I've saved svg to eps in the past without any problems, but now I keep getting a msg saying it could not be saved. Any ideas about what's happening and how to save the file? A file name is created, but it has no content (size is 0 kb).

The file that won't save is made up of several images that were made as separate files. I can save one of the files (that won't save when part of the big group) as eps with no problem.

I am going through the individual images and trying to save them as eps. So far 4 will save individually, and as part of a group of the 4. If I include one (dino) that won't save to eps on its own, the group will not save.

Dino will save to pdf and looks fine.

If I try to print dino from inkscape, only a few of the shapes will print. Some of the shapes that print include the fill. Some of them print only the stroke (outline.) This is part of a job with a deadline, of course!

Oh, deadlines.

Getting straight to the point, save the dino as plain svg first.
Any changes then, when re-opening and saving as eps/pdf?

Did you use filters, like blurring?
That get's embedded as raster images, so you may have something too large.
Either the area or the output resolution of the filters.

Did you use masking?
Try to replace it with clipping if necessary.

Did you use clipping, inside a fill pattern?
Better try the pre 0.91 release.

Well the list could go on and on, as with any guessing game.
If you post the svg/part of the svg that is problematic, we may have a better clue to help.

thanks for your reply. I just heard from someone on another forum who helped. Some of the images weren't at 100% opacity and this prevented the file from being saved as eps. It also prevented those items from printing directly inside inkscape, when I just want a quick printout.

I thought all was 100%, but it turned not not to be so. When parts were grouped, I selected All and made sure opacity was at 100%. Only, this gave false info. It turns out that some parts weren't at 100%. After ungrouping, I could see this, and make corrections.
