Early Blake Seasonal in Progress.

Postby EarlyBlake » Sun Nov 02, 2008 10:25 pm

I'm still working on my Halloween pumpkin. It's late I know maybe I should put some snow on it.:P How is the shading and the few highlights on this pumpkin? The shape is not typical, but that is the shape I wanted.

I set the filter quality to Gaussian blurs to lowest. I was happy with the way the highlights looked in the inkscape window, but I'm not sure about them now. Is seeing so many blurs in one image cloying?

I haven't finished wit the the stem yet. I'm having problem getting a concave look in the ruts on the stem.

I think it looks like a pumpkin that's a little bit past its prime. Also re the shape, it looks to me like a pumpkin that's more tall and thin, than short and plump. But the perspective is as if one's eye level is equal to the surface the pumpkins sits on. It doesn't seem like an unusual shape as much as an unusual perspective, to me.

I don't notice anything displeasing about the use of blurs. Although you have taught me a new word -- never heard the word cloying before :o And about the stem, I'm wondering if you could treat the crevices in the stem just like the crevices in the pumpkin, only smaller, and different colors?
It's late I know maybe I should put some snow on it.

Or if you live in my neighborhood, old pumpkins get nibbled on by squirrels! That said, squirrel nibbling could be quite challenging to depict....well, for me it would be anyway.

I think it promises to be a great gourd!

I don't think you've used too much blur. The only time there's too much blur is when things that should be sharp are blurred.

"Cloy" is also a new word to me :)

I think it looks great. Much better than my amateurish attempt. :)
