Word-perspective

Postby Gabriel » Tue Jan 01, 2008 8:34 pm

Happy new year!
How can I make :tool_text: word perspectivical, change one vertical side shorter as if it would be far away?
I have the same question about :tool_rectangle: and :tool_ellipse:

Regards
Ivan

There is an Effect called Perpective, you can find it in Effects > Modify Path > Perspective

You need to draw a closed path with 4 nodes in it (one side shorter or whatever shape you need), select it together with your object and call for the Perspective effect. To draw the path you can draw a rectangle for example, convert it to a path and then edit nodes into shape you like.
The selection order is important but I can't say which should be selected first, play with it and you'll see.

You can also try Effects > Modify Path > Envelope that gives the same result if you know how to shape that 4-node path properly to show perspective and not just ordinary distortion.

btw, you need to convert your object to a path too before you can use Perspective or Envelope Effect!

I did it but no effect :( . I made the object (word) to path. I mede a rectangle, draw behind the word and made it to path too. I selected both by :tool_selector: If I selected the word first, no change. If I selected the rectangle first, the word has disappeared. I tryd to select in :tool_node: too, but it was not any effect. Thank you for helping, I need more.

what Inkscape version are you using and on what platform? You can check the Inkscape version in Help > About Inkscape, the date is in the top right corner.

The new version will be up soon, but until then you can use development version.

Envelope and Perspective don't work in the latest development version on windows, but on the linux version do.
If you can only use windows I'll post here when they fix the bugs so you can download it.

Thank you!
Is there any other possibility to draw one side of a word? E.g. take it as background of a rectangle and change the rectangle to path... I realize that a path with background is a paradox, but I ask anyway.

Im not sure what you mean exactly, but I doubt it. You could possibly use Node sculpting feature, but you have to know pretty well what the final shape should look like.
Convert your word to a path Path > Object to Path
Select node tool :tool_node:
Now select all the nodes in the top half of the word
position your mouse over the top-right-most node
press Alt and keep it pressed
now move with mouse upwards
Do the same for the nodes in the bottom half only downwards

This isn't perfect and it takes a lot of playing around to get it right, I hope you got time to play :)

If you need this now for a specific project you can send me the object with the rectangle and Ill make the effects on my linux, and send them back :)

Doing what prkos says works, but you have to do some of his steps in in a set way.
1. Type your text then object to path
2. Take the :tool_pen: and draw you perspective shape but it must go in this order bottom left, top left, top right, bottom right and then close the path.
3. Shft+Ctrl+C (Object to path) on the perspective shape.
4. Select perspective shape first then your text.
5. Effects>Modify path>Perspective
6. Voila you have text that looks far away.

If you are still having trouble take a look at heathenx's video tutorial
