I'm trialling not moderating posts from new users.
This has been a measure to reduce the spam regular users are exposed to, but it's a significant inconvenience to new users looking for hasty answers.
Expect to see spam, but when you do you can report it. You should see a set of icons at the top right of each post. The upside-down triangle with the red exclamation mark is the one to report a post.
If a post is reported twice it will be moved into the moderation queue... at least that is what is meant to happen.

Post normally. The moderation queue is still being monitored.

This post is the only other post I see for you. Send me a private message if you have been posting other posts that have not appeared.
Re: Trialling no moderation of posts for new users
Why not but then you should grant moderation rights to more users IMHO.
Too much spam for kitchen announcements for me.

In a way, everyone is a moderator. If you are seeing spam, it's either because you are the first of 2 people to see it, or nobody before you bothered to report it.
I didn't think we would have trouble finding 2 people reporting spam. If the entire community does not contain 2 regular visitors who would report spam, what are the odds of finding someone willing to give up their time to moderate?
Re: Trialling no moderation of posts for new users
Is it ok to see 100+ spam posts a day?
Actually one of these, a "not-so" new user is posting it's 70th spam right at this moment I'm typing here.
Would be much easier disabling spammers by one click instead of reporting each of their posts.

Re: Trialling no moderation of posts for new users
Moderation takes too much time
Any report by a validated member (eg someone who posted more than 20 messages) should move the message to a "awaitng moderation" list.
I guess those messages are generated automatically so a custom javascript antispam protection should protect us from those spam
(eg on the onsubmit add a hidden field that computes the number of character of the subject, it should remove 99% of automatic spam without hurting real posters (no captcha))

No need to report each and every spam post from the same user. One is enough. The mods/admins will be able to do a one-click-ban on the spammer via MCP/ACP which should take care of removing all posts and threads in one go.
So how do I know of this? I was the unfortunate victim of this one-click-ban recently. All my posts in this forum got removed. It was accidental I was told and my posts are in a backup somewhere. But as of today, I have yet to see the restoration of my posts.
Wrongfully banned in March 2014. All my posts prior to this date were unceremoniously removed. I was told there was supposed to be in a backup somewhere. Still waiting for my old posts to be restored (more likely it's hello bit bucket).

Sad to hear that. Hope it's not all lost and there is some backup.
