Problem with Bezier tool

Postby needshalp » Fri Aug 31, 2018 3:32 pm

Good day, I've always used PS and GIMP's path tool without any issues and just recently I started using Inkscape as well and was expecting the Bezier tool to work the same way. Or does it not? Because everytime I try to use it, I am unable to create a stroke. After ending the path, I only create something like a very big selection box?? Which most of the time ends up far away, sometimes even outside my working area. I don't get the tool at all. Any advise would be great, Thank you.

Hi.

Would suggest checking the tool settings first.
No shape -not from clipboard, no triangle, no rounded
no spiro-path
no B-spline.

Then it should work as expected.

Further on, be avare of the style settings -a wide stroke with 0 alpha value and no fill could produce the same result.
Set opacity to 100% and alpha values accordingly in the fill and stroke panel (Shift+Ctrl+F).
Check layer's visibility (Shift+Ctrl+L).

Check if you are not inside another group -which group can even have some additional filters.
Might also worth switching off rendering of the filters (Ctrl+5 on the numpad) and/or switching to geometric bounding box in the preferences (Shift+Ctrl+P).

In addition to Lazur's above suggestion it's useful to sometimes switch back and forth from outline to normal view to eliminate the paint (fill/stroke) as the issue.
Your mind is what you think it is.

It sounds like the last time you used that tool, you made the object transparent. Try this tutorial: https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/ind ... article=18

If none of the foregoing advice helps, please share an SVG file with something you drew with Pen tool. Then we can download the SVG file and tell you what happened. Something about the giant object which you describe doesn't make immediate sense. But with SVG file we know for sure, without guessing.
